It is being reported, by almost all news media outlets, that the almost year-long debate on the make-or-break issue of the Obama presidency is actually coming down to the vote of one single Democrat Senator.  Senator Ben Nelson from Nebraska has threatened to vote against the ObamaCare bill being considered in the Senate unless it has guarantees that Americans will not have to subsidize abortions as well as addressing other fiscal concerns he has with the bill.

The question of the decade, if not longer is, will Senator Ben Nelson provide the most important vote cast in the United States Congress in decades and vote to stop America from sliding into socialism?  Will he become an American hero as his fellow Democrat, Congressman Bart Stupak from Michigan, did in the House of Representatives last month?  The alternative for Senator Nelson  --  from the most conservative state in the union, besides Utah  --  is sure defeat when he runs for reelection in 2012.

Congressman Bart Stupak, through incredible strength of character, refused to cave-in to the tremendous pressures put on him by the leadership of the Democrats in the House of Representatives during the debate of ObamaCare last month.  Congressman Stupak's pro-life amendment, preventing Americans from subsidizing abortions, passed overwhelmingly by a margin of 240 to 194 with 64 Democrats joining him along with every single Republican except for one who voted present.

A very large majority of Americans oppose the bill which Senator Nelson's party leadership is trying to cram down the throats of Americans by Christmas.  The most accurate poll, the Rasmussen poll, released on December 14th, show that 56% of those polled now oppose the Senate's version of ObamaCare compared to only 40% who support it.  Worse for Democrats is that 46% strongly oppose the plan compared with only 19% who strongly favor it.

The founder of the poll and president of Rasmussen Reports, Scott Rasmussen, said on Monday:  "The most significant detail in the data is that 63% of senior citizens oppose the plan, including 52% who strongly oppose it.  Seniors are significant in this debate both because they use the health care system more than anyone else and because they vote more than younger voters."

The pressure on Senator Ben Nelson to vote for the bill has exponentially increased as the president's and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's Christmas deadline to pass the bill approaches.  Indeed, on the front page of today's "The New York Times," it reports that the "White House and Senate Democratic leaders seem willing to give" Senator Nelson "just about anything he wants to win his support," EXCEPT for "the item at the top of Mr. Nelson's wish-lists:  air-tight restrictions on insurance coverage for abortions."

America could have two genuinely American heroes this Christmas  --  both in America's oldest party  --  if Senator Ben Nelson joins Congressman Bart Stupak in ensuring that America does not go down the road to socialism, while at the same time respecting the sanctity of human life.

Senator Ben Nelson, were my

Senator Ben Nelson, were my thanks misappropriated?  Should they have been for a fine acting job?  Today, it does seem as though you have sold out for personal gain every person you represent who will suffer the consequences of your decision!  Many call you Judas.  I am too filled with sorrow to label such self-service with a name which epitomizes pride and betrayal.  This choice does not come from ignorance  or misunderstanding, but from an agenda which serves the few at the cost of an entire nation!

Please, informed friends,

Please, informed friends, explain to me exactly what has been signed into law.  I have followed this bill with prayer and hope that we will not lose our inherent right to choose the right over the wrong.  I thank Senator Nelson and Congressman Stupak for their valiant fights for the American majority which they respectfully represent.  I have prayed that the honorable Senator Nelson would not cave in to the manipulations of a corrupt body of politicians who do not represent America in truth and honor.  God of mercy, be with us all!
