Democrat Congressman Bart Stupak, the pro-life champion for the year of 2009, seems to have his work cut out for him again this year. After six hours of debate and discussion on Thursday at The Blair House, it was only within the last few minutes of the event that the true purpose for the "Health Care Summit" was revealed.

After speaking for over two hours himself, and congressional Democrats speaking for another two hours, President Obama basically implied that if the Republicans do not go along with most of the provisions of the massive $2.3 trillion ObamaCare bill then the Democrats would go their own way; Obviously a reference to the use of the so-called reconciliation procedure to ram through ObamaCare.  read more »

Liberal Democrats have been determined in their desire to destroy the institution of traditional marriage between one man and one woman for decades. If any more evidence is needed about this fact, it is provided in both versions of ObamaCare which were passed in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate late last year.

The "Wall Street Journal" reported that "Some married couples would pay thousands of dollars more for the same health insurance coverage as unmarried people living together, under the health insurance overhaul plan pending in Congress.

"The built-in 'marriage penalty' in both House and Senate healthcare bills has received scant attention. But for scores of low-income and middle-income couples, it could mean a hike of $2,000 or more in annual insurance premiums the moment they say 'I do'".  read more »

For years, Congressman Pete Sessions, Republican from Texas, and Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and the conservative House Republican Study Committee have been trying to let a little sunshine into the congressional committee proceedings in the United States House of Representatives.   

One would think that after campaign promises from both the president and the speaker of the house that the Democrats would conduct the most open and honest White House and House of Representatives in history; that the Democrats would not be fighting the transparency which would be gained by the passage of House Resolution (H.Res. 874.)  The resolution would require that all roll-call votes in House committees be posted on their respective websites within 48 hours of each vote.    read more »

Our nation stands at a crossroads as many significant issues have been ignored for decades. Among them is energy independence and passing along a cleaner environment to future generations.

As a conservative, I have always believed we can and should be better stewards of God's creation. I also know we can strengthen our economy and national security by becoming energy independent.

Last year we spent more than $440 billion on foreign oil and now find ourselves more dependent on overseas supplies than at any other time in our nation's history. Sometimes our money even goes to fund enemies bent on our destruction.

And who will ever forget last year's $4 a gallon gas? America has been held hostage by foreign cartels far too long and it's now time we do something about it.  read more »

There was a wonderful and poignant picture of pro-life champion, Congressman Bart Stupak, Democrat from Michigan, in Sunday's "The Washington Times," a photo taken above the congressman from a balcony in the U.S. Capitol Building - which shows him walking all by himself, looking like all the problems of the world were on his shoulders.  The photo was so symbolic of Congressman Stupak's lonely, gallant, courageous and finally, successful fight to protect generations of America's unborn children from death.    read more »

In a stunning rebuke by the citizens of Maine yesterday, the law passed by the Democratic-controlled Maine state legislature and signed into law by Democratic Governor, John Baldacci, to allow homosexuals to marry, was resoundingly defeated.  The American people continue to overrule their elected officials on this issue, time after time, and it seems these politicians never seem to learn the lesson.  

By an average of about 70%, voters in 31 states, including the liberal states of California, Hawaii, Oregon, and now Maine, have rejected homosexual marriage.  In the case of Maine, the Democratic-elected officials were determined to bypass their citizens and force such "marriages" upon the citizens of Maine.  The citizens rose up and voted a resounding NO!    read more »

The president signed into law the defense spending bill last week in the White House with the abominable "hate crimes" legislation included in the bill, what many now call "thought crimes" legislation.  This law will eventually lead to the prosecution of clergy who speak out against homosexuality from their pulpits if the experience of similar legislation passed in Canada, Sweden and Great Britain is any guide.   

The First Amendment free speech rights of chaplains in the United States military has already been restricted.  Military chaplains have been harassed and indeed dismissed from military duty because they pray in the name of Jesus.  To remedy this terrible problem, it is imperative that the United States Congress pass Congressman Walter Jones' Military Chaplain Prayer bill.     read more »

Conventional wisdom suggests that the prospect of Congress passing a comprehensive climate change bill soon is rapidly approaching zero. The divisions in our country on how to deal with climate change are deep. Many Democrats insist on tough new standards for curtailing the carbon emissions that cause global warming. Many Republicans remain concerned about the cost to Americans relative to the environmental benefit and are adamant about breaking our addiction to foreign sources of oil.

However, we refuse to accept the argument that the United States cannot lead the world in addressing global climate change. We are also convinced that we have found both a framework for climate legislation to pass Congress and the blueprint for a clean-energy future that will revitalize our economy, protect current jobs and create new ones, safeguard our national security and reduce pollution.  read more »

I am introducing a congressional resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives in light of the recent reports of criminal activity involving ACORN and their long history of tax-exemption abuse. I am calling on Congress to terminate ACORN's tax-exempt status under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

My resolution expresses the sense of Congress that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) should lose its exemption from taxation under the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

I have introduced this resolution because of a number of abuses by ACORN. In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, seven employees of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (commonly referred to as ‘‘ACORN'') were charged with filing hundreds of fraudulent voter registrations before the 2008 elections.  read more »

When President Obama touched down in Pittsburgh for the G-20 Summit last week, he had the chance to lead on trade policies that will level the playing field for American workers and small businesses.

Trade is critical to U.S. economic growth and vital to global economic development. Trade - especially exports - has been the one bright spot in our economy over recent years, accounting at one point for nearly 60 percent of our economic growth. Forty-two percent of American jobs depend on trade, and exports account for one in every eight dollars earned by Americans last year. Yet in the midst of this severe economic downturn, U.S. exports have declined by 20 percent - marking the worst decline in U.S. exports since World War II.  read more »
