New Study: ObamaCare would destroy up to 700,000 jobs in ten years

Remember "Jobs, jobs, jobs"?  That's what Obama and the Democrats told us they were going to focus on a few months ago after that big upset win by Scott Brown in Massachusetts, (after he campaigned almost exclusively against ObamaCare).

Well not only have they not changed their focus to jobs, we've spent another two months mired in debating their health care takeover scheme.  And now comes a study from Americans for Tax Reform and the Beacon Hill Institute that projects ObamaCare would cost the economy around 700,000 jobs by 2019.

Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged
passage of the massive health reform plan moving through Congress as a
way to create up to 400,000 jobs.  Speaker Pelosi bases her claim on a
report by the Center for American Progress (CAP) in which the Center
estimates that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)
would create 250,000 to 400,000 jobs per year over 10 years.

This estimate by CAP amounts to a hurried effort to add academic
heft to the claim that national health care reform offers a collateral
benefit in the form of an economic “stimulus.” It turns out, however,
that its methodology, stripped of unsupportable claims about savings in
health care costs, shows just the opposite of what CAP intended. PPACA
is a job killer, not a job creator.

Capitol Hill Update: Obama's Unemployment Rate Reaches 10.2%

On this day  --  exactly three years from the day on which Sarah Palin or Mike Huckabee or Tim Pawlenty or some other Reaganite Republican will probably be elected president  --  many Americans were shocked (but not Reaganites,) that Barack Obama's unemployment rate has now reached a massive 10.2% of the American people unemployed.

Yet, Obama and his acolytes were promising (and threatening) Blue Dog Democrats that if they did not vote for Obama's  TRILLION dollar (with interest) so-called stimulus bill, the unemployment rate would go above 8%.  So many of the Blue Dog Democrats and other Democrats occupying the 80-plus congressional seats won by President George W. Bush or by Senator John McCain were intimidated and actually voted for the Obama stimulus bill last February.

And what do they have to show for their vote?  Massive unemployment and some additional 3 million Americans who have lost their jobs since the passage of the Obama stimulus bill.  This week, to make fiscal matters worse, the Democrats in the United States Senate even voted to extend the unemployment benefits of $300 each week for a total of 99 weeks (almost 2 years) to further increase the gargantuan national debt, now approaching $12 TRILLION dollars.    read more »

Political Roundup: 11-5-09

Interesting tid-bits in the wake of Tuesday's election...

Election already having consequences for Obamacare?

Maybe.  The Hill reports that Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton (D-Mo.) on Wednesday indicated that he was opposed to the House version of Obamacare: "I oppose the creation of a new government-run public option and continue to have serious concerns about its unintended consequences for Missourians who have private insurance plans they like. I remain concerned about the bill's impact on rural hospitals and doctors."   The dominoes may be starting to fall.

Super stimulus...saves more jobs than actually exist!

Beware all ye who doubt the power of the super stimulus.  The Associated Press documents the proof.

President Barack Obama's economic recovery program saved 935 jobs at the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, an impressive success story for the stimulus plan. Trouble is, only 508 people work there.  read more »

Obama's new math: a 1.9 million job loss becomes a 150,000 job gain

When Barack Obama used such weasel words during his presidential campaign as in "I will create or save 3 million jobs over the next 2 years," Americans with some economic sense wondered how he knew how many jobs he could "save."  Of course, during the presidential campaign, the left-wing Obama-favoring media, and now the White House press corps, have let him and his ecomomists off the hook on this point.

Just last week, Obama boasted that his one trillion (with interest) dollar stimulus package had already created or saved 150,000 jobs.   Even an Obama administration official in a hearing this week could not explain to a Republican Congressman how the Obama administration came up with this wild 150,000 job gain figure according to Fox News tonight.

As Karl Rove writes in "The Wall Street Journal", nearly 1.9 million jobs have been lost since January when Obama was sworn in as president.. As Mr. Rove points out, in the beginning of January, 134.3 million people were employed.  At the beginning of May, 132.4 million Americans were working, a loss of 1.9 million jobs.  Considering that Obama took office in the third week of January, and his trillion dollar stimulus bill was signed into law shortly thereafter, let's give him credit for a loss of only 1.5 million jobs.     read more »
