Rep. Pence: Medicare Chief Berwick ‘Not Entitled to That Job,’ Must Explain Praise for UK ‘Socialist Health Care System'

Washington (CNSNews.com) – Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) says he is concerned about the prospect of health care rationing following the recess appointment of Dr. Donald Berwick to serve as the administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services.

Pence, speaking Tuesday at a Congressional Health Caucus event, said Berwick was “not entitled to that job” and should have had a confirmation hearing.

“I think an appointment of such magnitude, at a time of enormous public debate, as a recess appointment was wrong,” Pence told CNSNews.com. “I think it was wrong for the president to bypass the confirmation process at a time when the American people are so focused on legislation where the ink is barely dry...

Pence Says Obama Needs to Fire Catholic-Bashing Adviser

(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) says that it is "long overdue" for President Barack Obama to fire Harry Knox from the White House Advisory Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships because of the "vehement anti-Catholic statements" Knox has made.

"Harry Knox’s repeated, intolerant statements about the Catholic Church and Catholic teachings make it totally inappropriate for him to serve on President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships," Pence told CNSNews.com in an interview Friday. "Harry Knox’s termination from the president’s Faith-Based Advisory Council is long-over due. And we would renew our call for Harry Knox to be removed from that position by the president.”

"I think Harry Knox is like any American entitled to his opinions," said Pence. "But he is simply and categorically the wrong person to serve on the president’s advisory council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships...

Rep. Pence: Stop Using Taxpayer Money to Fund Planned Parenthood

(CNSNews.com) – In a speech on Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Washington, D.C., Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) earned a standing ovation when he said the United States has a moral obligation to the unborn, and that the time has come to stop funding Planned Parenthood with money from pro-life American taxpayers.

“The largest abortion provider in America should not be the largest recipient of federal funding under Title 10,” Pence said. “The time has come to defund any and all funding to Planned Parenthood of America.”

The moment came near the end of Pence’s remarks after he claimed that President Barack Obama and his administration are “managing the decline of America,” rather than reversing that decline....

Musgrave: GOP needs principled leaders

The Republican Party needs a repair job. That advice comes from a former congresswoman who is currently with the pro-life group, Susan B. Anthony List.

Marilyn Musgrave of Colorado, who served three terms in the U.S. House, tells OneNewsNow she is a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican -- in that order. "So I definitely want my party to be conservative and stand for the principles that have been very dear to me through the years," she emphasizes.

According to the former lawmaker, the GOP right now is weak in leadership -- which begs the question: who should lead?

Marilyn Musgrave (former Colorado congresswoman)"I happen to be privileged to know individuals like [Indiana's] Mike Pence who serves in Congress; [South Carolina's] Jim DeMint who is a senator," she shares, "and I see very capable individuals who could really lead our party -- and I hope that those leaders really come forward."...

Abortion Language in Health Care Bill Played ‘Critical Role’ in Demise, Pence Says

(CNSNews.com) – Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) said language in the Senate health care bill to allow tax dollars to go to health plans that cover abortion played a “critical role” in the legislation’s apparent demise, as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced on Jan. 21 that there were not enough votes to pass the Senate-version of the bill in the House of Representatives.

At the annual March for Life on Friday, Jan. 22, CNSNews.com asked Pence, “The Senate health care bill, which allowed tax money to go to health care plans which cover abortions is essentially dead, according to Democratic leaders. Do you think the abortion language had anything to do with the bill being dead now?”

“Well, I do believe it did,” Pence answered.  read more »

House Republicans Defend Conservative Commentators, Decry White House Feud

House Republican leaders rushed to the defense of conservative commentators Thursday after President Obama dismissed Fox News as "talk radio" -- part of the White House campaign to marginalize opposing viewpoints.

Rep. Mike Pence, chairman of the House Republican Conference, said conservative commentators speak more for Americans than the national media outlets that have targeted them for criticism.

"Goaded on by a White House increasingly intolerant of criticism, lately the national media has taken aim at conservative commentators in radio and television," the Indiana Republican said on the House floor. "Suggesting that they only speak for a small group of activists and even suggesting in one report today that Republicans in Washington are 'worried about their electoral effect.' Well, that's hogwash"...
